Severin von Eckardstein

Severin von Eckardstein (born August 1, 1978 in Düsseldorf ) is a German pianist .

biography

At the age of six, von Eckardstein received his first piano lessons from Julia Hechtl (Robert Schumann University, Düsseldorf). This was followed by studies with Barbara Szczepanska , Karl-Heinz Kämmerling (University of the Arts, Salzburg) and Klaus Hellwig (University of the Arts, Berlin), where he also took his exams. He completed additional studies at the International Piano Academy Lake Como, Italy.

He completed his school education at the Fürst-Johann-Moritz-Gymnasium in Siegen.

Prizes and awards

In 1990 he won the Steinway competition in Hamburg and in 1992 the “ Jugend musiziert ” competition at the federal level.

As a prize winner at the international piano competition "Incontro Internazionale Giovani Pianisti", Senigallia (Italy) and the renowned "ARD International Music Competition", Munich, he finally established himself in professional circles.

In the meantime he has won prizes at major international competitions such as the “ Busoni Competition ” in Bolzano (1998) and the “Leeds International Piano Competition” (2000). On June 8, 2003 he won the “Grand Prix International Reine Elisabeth” in Brussels with Sonata No. 27 in E minor, Opus 90 by Beethoven , Dreams by Ian Munro (compulsory piece) and the 2nd Piano Concerto in G minor, Opus 16 by Prokofiev . He received various special prizes for the “best interpretation of contemporary music”.

He has also received various awards and grants. So he is u. a. Scholarship holder of the Mozart Society, Dortmund, the German National Academic Foundation, the Jürgen Ponto Foundation and recipient of the Trude Fischer Foundation in Düsseldorf. In 2002 he received the European Culture Prize in Berlin and in 2003 the “ Echo Klassik ” award . He has performed solo and orchestral concerts on many stages in Europe (Berlin, Prague, Munich, St. Petersburg, Paris, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Leeds) and at various international music festivals.
