The school was first mentioned in 1886 as the "Rector's School" and "Higher Private School". It was officially founded on April 1, 1914, when the school was taken over by the Weidenau community. In the school year 1919/20 the conversion to an upper secondary school took place , so that from then on the school could acquire the Abitur. At the beginning of 1944, classes were discontinued due to the Second World War . A bomb attack on March 7, 1945 damaged large parts of the school building. In January 1946 the school reopened. On September 22, 1948, the school was given its current name and was declared a grammar school.
