The Sewing-Machine Needles (English for sewing machine needles ) are three up to 45 m high cliff rocks in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . They are located southeast of Rancho Point on Deception Island .
Whalers gave the original rock gate in the 19th century the name Sewing-Machine Rock (English for sewing machine rock ). After this rock gate collapsed as a result of an earthquake in 1924, the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee adapted this name in 1957 .
