The Shackleton Valley is a wide valley on the north coast of South Georgia in the South Atlantic . From Stromness Harbor it runs in a west-northwest direction.
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1991 after the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton , who succeeded in crossing South Georgia for the first time in the course of his endurance expedition (1914-1917) in May 1916 together with Thomas Crean and Frank Worsley .
