Shahed 129 ( Persian شاهد ١٢٩(German: "Eyewitness") is the first Iranian unmanned aerial vehicle capable of air attack and was presented to the public in September 2012. It entered service with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Air Force (IRSAF) in September 2013 .

history

The development of unmanned aerial vehicles in Iran began as early as 2007 with the reproduction of rotary engines , which were used in the smaller previous development, Shahed 123 . The research and development as well as the production of various parts was carried out by the Malek Ashtar University and the armaments company Shahed Aviation Industries Research Center (SAIRC) under the control of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard . The final assembly is carried out by the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industrial Company (HESA).

construction

According to Iranian information, it is able to carry out reconnaissance and combat missions with a duration of 24 hours. The Shahed 129 has a range of 1700 km and an operational altitude of around 7300 meters and is therefore classified as a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE). The Shahed 129 can be armed with eight anti-ship missiles of the Sadid-1 type . The reconnaissance radius is up to 200 km. Military experts estimate the wingspan to be 16 meters and the length to be around 8 meters. The configuration of the Shahed 129 is said to be similar to the British Watchkeeper WK450 and the design of the Israeli Elbit Hermes 450, which is smaller by comparison . On November 28, 2019, a variant of the Shahed 129 for the Iranian Navy called "Simorgh" was presented.
