Shahriyar Jamshidi

Shahriyar Jamshidi ( Persian شهریار جمشیدی; * 1971 in Kermanshah ) is a Kurdish - Iranian Kamantsche player and composer . His focus is mainly on Kurdish and Iranian music.

Life

Shahriyar was born into a Kurdish family in Kermanshah. Due to restrictions in the course of the Iranian Revolution in 1978, he was only able to study music at the age of 17. For a period of two years he therefore received private music lessons under the direction of Mahmoud Merati before studying music at the University of the Arts in Tehran . He pursued his music studies in Tehran under various teachers, u. a. Ahmad Pejman, Kamkars Houshang Kamkar, Ardeshir Kamkar and Taghi Binesh. He also worked under the guidance of the well-known Kurdish Kamantsche player Mojtaba Mirzadeh.

Work

Jamshidi has worked both alone and with various groups (e.g. Chakad Ensemble) under the direction of Alireza Javaheri in collaboration with Bahman Rajabi.
In 2003 he was the founder of the Dilan Ensemble.
He has performed in the Roudaki Hall and in various Iranian cities.
He took part twice as a solo Kamantsche player at the International Security for Improvised Music Conference in Château-d'Œx, Switzerland. and Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada.
He made two appearances at the Tirgan Festival in 2013 and 2015.
Jamshidi is also the co-founder and artist of Kamancello duo, which performed at the Festival du Monde Arabe de Montréal in 2015 .
Dilan Ensemble performed at the 2015 High-Fest Festival in Yerevan , Armenia .
In 2016 he had a musical collaboration with Richard Robeson for his album Meet me in Tanger.
He performed at the Ontario Contact Conference.
Jamshidi participated in the Banff Musicians in Residence program at the Banff Center in Winter 2017.
He performed at McMaster University in 2018 .
In July 2018 he gave a solo concert at the 33rd World Conference of International Society for Music Education in Baku , Azerbaijan .

A Yellow Flower (2014): This album was recorded by the Kamantsche Chamber Orchestra and consists of a selection of works by the Kurdish poet Abdulla Pashew . It was dedicated to the people of Kobani on the occasion of the siege of the city.
Kamancello (2017) is an instrumental album with improvisation music and the first album by the band KAMANCHELLO. Kamancello's creations range from emotional and soulful to fiery and intense and their music has been described as "completely enchanting".
