Shakespeare Today is a book by Jan Kott that was published in Polish ( Szekspir wspólczesny ) in 1965 and in German in 1970 and has since been translated into many other languages. Kott's work not only gave new impetus to Shakespeare research, it also shaped practical theater work . In fourteen essays Jan Kott analyzes all of the major Shakespeare dramas and compares the cruelty of the Elizabethan age with the experiences of the Second World War .
