Shameka Delynn Christon (born February 15, 1982 in Hot Springs , Arkansas , United States ) is a professional basketball player . She last played for the Phoenix Mercury in the Women's National Basketball Association in 2015 .

Career

college

Shameka Christon played for the University of Arkansas women's basketball team until 2004 . In her senior year in college, she was named Player Of The Year in the Southeastern Conference.

Women's National Basketball Association

Shameka Christon was selected in the 2004 WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty in fifth place overall. After Christon was hardly in the team's starting line-up at the beginning, she was able to improve from season to season, so that she got more and more playing time. Since their third season in 2006 , Christon was an integral part of the Liberty starting lineup. After six seasons in New York, she moves to Chicago Sky before the 2010 season . Due to injury, she was only able to play a few games there. In 2011 Christon did not play in the WNBA. From 2012 she played for the San Antonio Silver Stars team . After she was almost always in the starting line-up in the first season, her proportion of the game decreased over time. In her third and final season in San Antonio, she was never in the starting lineup and was on the field for an average of only 10 minutes per game. Her last season in the WNBA for the time being, she played for the Phoenix Mercury team in 2015 . There she only made 12 appearances as a substitute.

Europe

For several years she was also active for clubs in Europe.

National team

At the beginning of her career, she won the bronze medal with the US team at the 2001 World Junior Championship.
