List of apple varieties |
Shampion is an autumn variety of the cultivated apple.
The variety originated in the Czech Republic in 1960 as a cross between Golden Delicious and Cox Orange .
fruit
The often large, orange to orange-red fruits are ripe at the end of September to the beginning of October. They are ready to eat immediately and can be kept until the end of November.
The flesh is cream-colored and very aromatic, but only slightly sweet and sour. The fruits tend to be speckled .
tree
The growth of this variety is medium strong and forms a pyramidal and loose crown. The tree branches well and makes many fruit skewers.
The yield is high and starts early. If the yield is too high, however, the fruits lack the aroma.
This variety is particularly susceptible to apple scab and fire blight .
