from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Shangpa Kagyu School ( Tib . : shangs pa bka 'brgyud ) is an independent school closely related to the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism ( Vajrayana ). It is often wrongly named alongside the so-called 8 smaller schools as one of the schools that emerged from the lineage of the Kagyu School of Marpa the Translator (1012-1097), but strictly speaking did not emerge from this transfer, but must be an independent one Line next to that of Marpa. Tibetan Buddhism is divided into four main schools, these are: Nyingma , Kagyu , Sakya , Gelug .

Niguma, Sukhasiddhi and the Yogi Kadrup Kyongpo Naljor

The so-called Shangpa-Kagyu tradition comes from the Yogi Khyungpo Naljor (Tib .: khyung po rnal 'byor ; 978 / 990–1127). He learned in India from the Dakinis Niguma , Naropa's tantric companion and from Sukhasiddi , student of the master Virupa , as well as from Maitripa and other masters. It is said that he studied with no fewer than 150 teachers. Because of the connection to Naropa, one of the forefathers of all Kagyu schools, and because of their practices, the Shangpa are counted among the Kagyu schools. Nowadays the Shangpa line is only partially preserved as an independent school. She absorbed into the Sakya and the other Kagyu schools. Also Tsongkhapa , the founder of the Gelugpa school received the teachings of Shangpa Kagyu transmitted. Shangpa Rinpoche and the late master Kalu Rinpoche , also known in the West towards the end of the 20th century, were lineage holders of the Shangpa Kagyu teachings. The special teaching of the Shangpa Kagyu tradition are the so-called " Six Yogas of Niguma " (Tib .: ni gu'i chos drug ).
