Shangri-La Toronto is a hotel and residential building in Downtown Toronto , Canada . The building has 65 floors and a height of 214 meters. The building was designed by the Canadian architect from Vancouver James Cheng and commissioned by Westbank Projects Corp. built. The team also built the 201-meter-high Living Shangri-La building in Vancouver with this combination . The hotel will be operated by Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts and will have 220 rooms. The residential part will have 353 units. The building is located on University Avenue and Adelaide Street, near and west of the Toronto Financial District .

history

The excavation work began in 2008. The foundation work on the underground car park began in spring 2009. Before the foundation work, archaeological excavations were carried out on the construction site. Many artifacts were found and secured. In total, excavation work was carried out up to 31 meters into the ground in order to obtain enough space for the underground car park. On the property there were several smaller buildings in front of the building that were demolished. Some historical buildings in the immediate vicinity have been preserved, but rebuilt, with the historical facades being renovated and preserved.
