The Sharoo AG (proper spelling: sharoo ) was a Swiss provider of private car-sharing peer-to-peer .

functionality

A so-called Sharoo box , which was specially developed by Sharoo, was installed in private cars or business cars . A mobile app made it possible to search for and book cars via the Internet on the one hand, and to open and close the car via Bluetooth on the other . The landlord determined the prices and the available times.

history

The Sharoo platform was developed from 2011 by the company M-Way AG, a subsidiary of the Migros retail group that specializes in electric bikes . In June 2012 M-Way tested Sharoo in a beta test with a closed community. In 2013 Sharoo was spun off as a stock corporation and Schweizerische Mobiliar participated in the start-up's capital. A year later, Mobility Carsharing acquired a stake in Sharoo. After a two-year project phase, Sharoo launched the platform on May 6, 2014 with around 70 cars in the cities of Zurich , Bern and Lucerne . In July 2015 Sharoo expanded into western Switzerland and from August 2015, in addition to the then majority shareholder Migros, Berner Versicherung Mobiliar and the car sharing organization Mobility, the AMAG Group also had stakes in the Migros subsidiary. 2017 was the first time that a leased car could be rented out to third parties. Sharoo launched a cooperation with the credit and leasing company Cashgate . AMAG replaced Migros as the majority shareholder in summer 2017. At the beginning of 2019, AMAG also took over the sharoo share package from Mobility.

Due to a lack of user numbers, Sharoo ceased operations on May 20, 2020. The company did not cover the costs of expanding the deactivated Sharoo Box . The AMAG Group applied to the Sharoo customer network to switch to Europcar's car sharing offer .

Award

In 2016, Sharoo received the Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards , which recognizes companies in regional markets in the areas of leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development.
