Robert O'Shea "Shea" Salinas (born June 24, 1986 in Lubbock ) is an American football player who is mostly used as a midfielder . He is currently under contract with the San José Earthquakes .

Career

Youth and amateur football

Salinas went to Furman University after graduating from high school . During his time there he played for his university's soccer team, the Furman Paladins. He also played at the same time in the Premier Development League for DFW Tornados and Carolina Dynamo .

Club career

Salinas was chosen as the 1st pick in the second round of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by the San José Earthquakes . On April 3, 2008, he made his professional debut against Los Angeles Galaxy . In the 3-2 defeat by the Kansas City Wizards , he scored his first competitive goal.

Expansion drafts were carried out through the participation of other teams in Major League Soccer . Salinas was transferred twice within two years. In the first draft to the Philadelphia Union and in the second draft in 2011 to the Vancouver Whitecaps .

After the 2011 season, Salinas moved back to the San José Earthquakes for an undisclosed fee .
