Sheepshanks is a relatively small impact crater on the northeastern edge of the front of the moon , on the northern edge of Mare Frigoris , south of the C. Mayer crater . The rim of the crater is hardly eroded. The interior has no central mountain. South of Sheepshanks, the Rima Sheepshanks moon groove runs towards Gärtner's Whale Plain .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the patron Anne Sheepshanks , sister of the British astronomer Richard Sheepshanks .
