C. Mayer is an impact crater on the front of the moon . It is located west of the Kane crater on the northern edge of Mare Frigoris . The wall is hardly eroded and the interior has a central mountain . In the southeast it overlies the heavily eroded secondary crater C. Mayer D (formerly also known as Gasser ), which opens to the Mare Frigoris in the southeast.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after German physicist and astronomer Christian Mayer .
