Shehong ( Chinese  射洪市 , pinyin Shehong Shì ) is a county-level city in the prefecture-level city Suining in southwest China province of Sichuan . It has an area of ​​1,496 km² and has approx. 958,000 inhabitants (2018), the population density is 584 inhabitants per kilometer. 31 square kilometers of the urban area have an urbanized settlement structure in which 321,000 people live. Its main town is the large community of Taihe (太和镇). Shehong has had the status of an independent city since November 2019, until then Shehong was a district.

Shehong is located in the middle of the Sichuan Basin on the middle reaches of the Fu Jiang . The terrain is hilly. The highest point is in Tianbao Village (天宝 寨) in Jinhua Township, 674 meters above sea level. The lowest point is 299 meters in the south of the Tuobei community , where the Fu Jiang leaves the city.

Shehong is 36% covered with forest. There are several larger canals for agricultural irrigation and over 3000 smaller reservoirs and ponds. In addition to agriculture, tourism is an important industry in the city. There are 4 dams for power generation in Fu Jiang with a total production of 153 MW. The city has deposits of petroleum and natural gas, salt, clay and slate, and limestone.

history

Shehong, then known as Shejiang (射 江), was founded at the time of the Southern and Northern Dynasties , named after the She Jiang River , now Zi Jiang (梓 江). At the time of the Northern Zhou Dynasty , Shejiang was renamed after Shehong. "Jiang" (江) and "Hong" (洪) were homonymous, the residents referred to the city as Shehong. This name was adopted during the Northern Zhou Dynasty. Shehong County has been administered by Shehong County for over 1,500 years.

Chen Zi'ang (陳子昂) (around 659–700), also Zi Boyu , one of the first poets of the Tang Dynasty , lived and worked in Shehong. The study platform of Chen Zi'ang ( Chen Zi'ang dushu tai陈子昂 读书 台), located in the area of ​​the urban district, has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (6-726) since 2006 .
