The municipality of Anju ( Chinese  安居 区 , Pinyin Ānjū Qū ) is a municipality in the prefecture -level city of Suining in the southwest Chinese province of Sichuan . It has an area of ​​1,258 km² and has approx. 774,500 inhabitants; 77,500 people live in urban settlements, 697,000 in rural settlements (2018). Its main town is the large community of Anju (安居 镇).

The name Anju for the settlement region has existed for about 1600 years. Since the founding of the People's Republic there was an administrative district with the name Anjuba (安居 坝区), in 1994 it was transferred to a large municipality and the name was changed to Anju (安居 镇). Anju as a municipality of the city of Suining was established in 2003.

geography

Anju is located in the hill country in central Sichuan in the middle of the Sichuan basin at an altitude of 300 to 600 meters. The landscape was created by erosion by running water. The lower areas are predominantly limestone, the higher areas are characterized by the reddish mudstone typical of Sichuan . The city district extends over 45 km in an east-west direction and over 28 km in a north-south direction.

The Baima He flows through Anju, it is dammed up to the Mazitan reservoir . The Qiong Jiang (琼 江) flows into the Baima He from the west.

economy

There are natural gas, salt and sulfur deposits in the municipality. 27% of the city district is covered with forest. Agriculture produces grain, vegetables, oil (mainly rapeseed) and pigs. The national road 318 runs in an east-west direction through the city district.

Culture

There are 39 ethnic minorities in the municipality, the largest in number being Tibetans , Yi , Miao , Hui , Uyghurs and Zhuang .

The large community of Shidong (镇 镇) is famous for its bamboo weaving art. After a dozen different treatments, native bamboo is cut into extremely fine, "cicada wing-fine" crystal-clear strips or hair-thick threads. These are woven into inlays or coverings for porcelain vessels and decorated with calligraphy or paintings. The technique is classified as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Sichuan Province.

The stone masonry in Fenshui Township (分 水镇) is another Intangible Cultural Heritage of Sichuan Province. The process of breaking, levering and lifting stones, the chants and calls of the workers when building cobblestone streets, dams and buildings. There are over 170 different types of singing, such as siren chants or hammer blow chants.

The two street districts Rougang (柔 刚 街道) and Fenghuang (凤凰 街道) were established in 2013. In 2014, the Juxian (聚贤 乡), Changli (常理 乡) and Guanyin (观音 乡) parishes were transformed into large parishes .
