The national road 318 ( Chinese 318 国 道 , Pinyin 318 Guódào , English China National Highway 318 ), Chinese abbreviation G318 , is a Chinese highway .
Course of the road
The G318 runs at about 30 degrees north latitude from Shanghai via Wuhan , Chengdu and Lhasa to the Bridge of Sino-Nepalese Friendship near Kodari on the Nepalese border. From there there is a connection via the Araniko Highway to Kathmandu , the capital of Nepal . The westernmost part of the national road (from Lhasa to the Nepalese border) also forms the Friendship Highway .
The national highway 318 with a total length of 5,476 km before G312 the longest street in China and one of the world's longest continuously numbered streets within a state. However, the Australian Highway 1 (around 14,500 km) and the Trans-Canada Highway (8,030 km) are significantly longer.
Only the eastern part runs in flat terrain, after which there are sometimes extreme differences in altitude to be mastered. On its way, the G318 passes close to the Siduhe Bridge , at 472 meters one of the highest bridges in the world. Many other engineering structures are also being built.
Four passes are more than 5,000 m above sea level.
