Shehryar Khan Afridi

Shehryar Khan Afridi (born March 12, 1971 ) is a Pakistani politician and has been interior minister since August 31, 2018 . He has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since August 2018 . He was previously a member of the National Assembly from June 2013 to May 2018.

Life

Shehryar Khan Afridi was born on March 12, 1971. He received his Masters in International Relations from Peshawar University. Afridi aspired to a career in the Pakistani authorities, but did not pass the entrance test.

Political career

In the parliamentary elections in 2002, Afridi ran for a seat in parliament for his constituency Kohat without party affiliation . He received 12083 votes, but was still defeated by a candidate of the Muttahida-Majlis-e-Amal. In the parliamentary elections in 2013 he ran on behalf of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and was successful and thus entered parliament. He received 68,129 votes and beat the candidate of the Jamiat Ulema-e Islam (F) (JUI-F). In the 2018 general election , he was re-elected in his constituency, Kohat. He received 82,248 votes and beat the MMA candidate Gohar Mohammad Khan Bangash. In July 2018 he was appointed Minister of the Interior of Pakistan. He took his oath of office on August 31, 2018. The oath of office was taken by Mamnoon Hussain .

Political positions

In an interview with Iranian journalists, Shehryar Khan Afridi spoke out in favor of strengthening diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Iran . In the context of the protests against the judgment of Christian Asia Bibi , Afridi spoke out in favor of a peaceful solution. On the Kashmir issue , Afridi pledged its full support to the Kashimiris in their quest for independence. Shehryar Khan Afridi also spoke out in favor of expanding diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia .

criticism

Afridi has been criticized for using millions in taxpayers' money to clean up his home. Prime Minister Imran Khan instructed the investigative body to open an investigation. Sheryar Khan Afridi was also criticized for embezzling a million dollar amount in a construction project. Afridi has vehemently denied these accusations.
