The parliamentary elections in Pakistan took place on July 25, 2018. Almost 106 million eligible voters, out of a population of around 200 million, were called to elect their representatives in the National Assembly of Pakistan . According to official figures, voter turnout was around 55 percent.

A total of 119 parties are listed in the Election Commission of Pakistan . In addition, two electoral alliances entered into 2018: Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal- Pakistan (MMA-P).
Opinion polls
The PML-N lost voter favor because of the impeachment and conviction of party leader Nawaz Sharif in connection with the Panama Papers . This fact led to the increasing popularity of the PTI, which ultimately resulted in an election victory.
Circumstances of choice
The parliamentary elections were overshadowed by several attacks on election rallies with more than 180 people killed. The polls had to be secured by more than 450,000 police officers and 370,000 military personnel. There were also protests over massive problems with a new electronic voting system that collapsed when the election results were broadcast.
Result
According to information from the electoral authority, the winner of the election was the former cricket star Imran Khan with his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the "Pakistan Movement for Justice". For a future government, however, he will have to rely on a coalition alliance.
