A parliamentary election was held in Pakistan in 2008. The date was moved from January 8th to February 18th. Was elected by the National Assembly (the lower house of the Majlis-e-Shura -called Parliament) and the Provincial Assemblies.

Pakistan's main opposition parties, the Pakistani People's Party (PPP) and the Muslim League of Pakistan (N) (PML-N) won a majority of the seats. The PPP, the PML (N) and the Awami National Party formed the new coalition government with Yussuf Raza Gilani as Prime Minister.

The election took place in the shadow of the assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto on December 27, 2007. After the election, the still-military ruler Pervez Musharraf admitted the defeat of his Muslim League Pakistani (Q) (PML-Q).

The turnout for the election was 35,170,435 people (44%).

About 60 seats were reserved for women and 10 seats were reserved for minorities such as Christians ( Catholics , Protestants and Anglicans ) and Hindus.

Note on Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf , Jamaat-e-Islami , Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan , Tehrik-e-Jafaria Pakistan , Ahl-i Hadīth did not take part. The Pakistani People's Movement boycotted the elections.
