The National People's Party (NVP) was a right-wing extremist and nationalist party in Austria . It was founded in 2007 as an amalgamation of several right-wing groups and filed its party statute with the Federal Ministry of the Interior in November 2007 . The NVP pursued völkisch-nationalistic goals and saw itself as German national .

program

The party program was heavily criticized by other parties and the Documentation Archive of the Austrian Resistance (DÖW) and described as neo-Nazi and xenophobic . There it said among other things:

“From a biological point of view, a people is a genetic, reproductive and environmental community at the same time. (..) It demands a species-related and species-appropriate knowledge of God and a worldview that has grown among the people. (..) Europe is the home of the Europid man and his creation. The peoples of Europe are related. The indigenous people of Asia, Africa, Australia and America (Indians) form their own cultures and peoples. You are alien to us. "

"The immediate suspension of Nazi compensation money for victims of the Nazi regime is important to us [...]."

Right-wing extremism

When it became known that a chapter of the program had been taken over practically verbatim from an SS curriculum from 1944, the Upper Austrian State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Combating Terrorism took the party under increased observation. In addition, the Austrian Communist Party filed a criminal complaint on suspicion of Nazi re-employment under the Prohibition Act . Since then, the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office has been investigating leading members of the NVP. 2009 In this context, various youth organizations, the non-partisan network against right-wing extremism and the Greens also called for a ban on the NVP. The district authority of Braunau had forbidden a demonstration by the NVP in March 2009 on the grounds that:

"The NVP is an extreme right-wing, xenophobic and racist party."

A planned demonstration by the party on May 1 in Linz was also prohibited by the authorities. The NVP are also accused of anti-Muslim tendencies. In January 2009, the NVP reported that “brave citizens had decided” to “express their displeasure with an extraordinary New Year's greeting” by sending their “Islamic friends [...] congratulations in the form of real pig's heads directly to the building site for the future mosque in Linz [brought] ”. The NVP also organized a memorial march to the grave of Walter Nowotny at the Vienna Central Cemetery .

German language and cultural area

The National People's Party regarded Austria as part of the German linguistic and cultural community and therefore acknowledged in its program that it belonged to the (state-independent) German people (German national in Austria), which was officially reluctant to hear in post-war Austria due to complicity (victim theory), but held out the prospect of state persecution of political opponents in the event of their takeover:

“Austria is part of the German language and cultural area and will remain so in the future. We counteract any destruction caused by multicultural arbitrariness. People who work to destroy a people and its culture, and thus act contrary to the vital interests of our people and our country, we will hold accountable within the framework of the law. "

Neo-Nazism

The NVP not only approached neo-Nazism in its political demands , but also tried to address militant right-wing groups through a “consultant for free forces”. In addition, the NVP described parliamentarism as undemocratic and rejected it. In addition, the NVP showed solidarity with people convicted under the Prohibition Act, such as Gerd Honsik, and operated its own website, which calls for the abolition of Art. 3g Prohibition Act with the words:

"Because only lies need bans"

In April 2009 it was revealed that parts of the NVP party program were taken from an SS textbook. Even before that, the KPÖ had filed a complaint against the NVP for re-activation. On June 15, the NVP announced on its website that the public prosecutor had closed the case. The reason given in the context of §190 was that "... there is no actual reason for further prosecution of the accused."

Further demands / positions

The NVP demanded Austria's gradual exit from the European Union and a "Europe of free nations". In addition, the party addressed topics such as genetic engineering , nuclear power and environmental protection in the Upper Austrian state election campaign . In doing so, other policy areas were mostly thematically linked to the xenophobic, xenophobic and anti-Semitic basic concept of the NVP:

“Times are getting worse and worse for us working people. [...] In addition to all the problems, there is also the danger of naturalized asylum seekers and, above all, the long-planned Blue Card! The Blue Card is intended to bring skilled workers from the 3rd world to Europe. But can this even be a solution? "

In an open letter to the Western governments and the so-called community of values , the NVP also complained about a “one-sided assignment of blame to the Palestinian Hamas by your lying media”. This is "a kneeling before the Zionist criminal regime of the Israeli bourgeoisie".

organization

The party tried to build up a network of regional groups in all federal states, but only had “building groups”. The DÖW estimates that the party's activities were only concentrated in eastern Austria. In addition, there was a youth organization, the Young National People's Party (JNVP), for whose homepage the “Nationale-Medienfront”, which also works for the NPD , is responsible. In the 2009 report on the protection of the constitution by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Fight against Terrorism (BVT), the NVP is mentioned - without directly mentioning the name:

“A cross-federally organized and media-active organization with anti-democratic ideas that was in the focus of the security authorities in 2007 was formed at the beginning of 2008 as a political party. Initial attempts at populist positioning, however, were unsuccessful. Apart from lively propaganda on the Internet, hardly any other high-publicity activities were carried out. Towards the end of 2008 the party was already showing clear signs of disintegration, with simultaneous partial attempts at restructuring at the regional level. "

In the spring of 2010, the NVP announced that it would downsize its board of directors in order to become “more powerful”. However, the BVT's 2010 report for the protection of the constitution saw the NVP's organizational ability to decline:

"A political party operating from Upper Austria with pronounced neo-Nazi tendencies, which had tried to gain a foothold nationwide in previous years, showed declining activities in 2009 and also signs of organizational disintegration at the federal level."

The report also shows that the NVP could neither set up a regional organization in Vienna nor keep one in the federal states. The Styrian regional group had disbanded, and the party's activities in Lower Austria had declined sharply after the arrest of a leadership functionary.

Election results

The NVP did not take part in any election. However, the participation in the municipal council elections in Baden near Vienna (2010) and the candidacy in the Upper Austrian state elections in September 2009 were announced . However, a ban was issued in the Upper Austrian state elections in 2009, where the party wanted to run in constituency 1 ( Linz and Linz area). The NVP had also failed at the municipal council level: On August 21, 2009, the electoral commission decided to prohibit the NVP candidacy in Enns (Upper Austria) and also to file a complaint with the Wels public prosecutor for re-activation. As a result of the party being banned from voting in the Upper Austrian state elections, the NVP called for an election boycott on its website, but voter turnout rose by 3.6%. There were efforts to ban the party.

On December 11, 2009, the Constitutional Court dismissed the NVP's complaint regarding the repeal of the Upper Austrian state election. The lawyer’s complaint requested that the preliminary investigation be canceled. The party was expelled beforehand, however, so the Constitutional Court argued that repealing the election process of the NVP would have been of no use due to the non-approval. The choice was therefore also valid because the objection period had already expired. On the same day, the party executive reacted and announced that they would discuss how to proceed by the end of the year.

Election recommendations

The NVP has issued a recommendation for Barbara Rosenkranz ( FPÖ ) for the 2010 federal presidential election . The party counted it "Ms. Rosenkranz highly to that [sic!], Defying the mainstream, neither distanced herself from her husband, nor changed her opinion with regard to the prohibition law and is therefore fully on the NVP line."

contacts

The NVP was connected to other right-wing extremist parties in Europe such as the National Democratic Party of Germany , the Nationally Oriented Swiss Party , the British National Party , the Nederlandse Volks-Unie and the “Bunter List” in Wels (see Ludwig Reinthaler ). There were also contacts to the neo-Nazi Delickna strana socialni spravedlnosti from the Czech Republic. Thus came Günter Rehak 1 May 2011 as a speaker at a rally of the DSSS in Brno on.
