Parliamentary elections in Pakistan 2002

The 2002 parliamentary elections in Pakistan were held on October 10, 2002. Members of parliament and the provincial governments were elected. The elections were held under the eyes of the military government of General Pervez Musharraf . The elections ended the two-party system between the Pakistan People's Party and the Pakistan Muslim League (N) . The elections favored the multi-party system . More than 70 parties took part in the elections, but only 6 parties were able to unite the most votes. These included the PML-Q, PPP, MMA, PML-N, MQM and the National Alliance.

Parties and candidates

More than 70 parties took part in the elections. The most famous parties were Peoples Party Parliamentarians, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Group, Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-i-Azam, nicknamed the Kings Party because it was close to the government. In addition, the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), an alliance of six politico-religious parties, the National Alliance chaired by Farooq Leghari, the party of Imran Khan , Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf , and the party of Tahir also took part -ul-Qadri , Pakistan Awami Tehreek .

Seats in parliament

The results were announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan . The Pakistan Peoples Party could get 62 seats, the PML-Q 76 seats, the Pakistan Muslim League (N) 16 seats, the Muttahhida Majlis-e-Amal 53 seats, the National Alliance 13 seats and the Muttahhida Qaumi Movement could get like that National Alliance secure 13 seats in parliament. The Awami National Party was unable to enter parliament. A total of 22 candidates could enter parliament without belonging to a party.

Seats in the provincial governments

The Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians had 120 seats, the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) 153 seats, the Pakistan Muslim League (N) 42, the Muttahhida Majlis-e-Amal 81 seats, the National Alliance 26 seats, the Muttahhida Qaumi Movement 28 Seats and the Awami National Party secure 8 seats in the provincial governments. 63 candidates without party affiliation could enter the provincial government.
