Sheila Darcy (born Rebecca Benedict Heffener on August 8, 1914 in York , Pennsylvania , † February 24, 2004 in San Diego , California ) was an American actress who had her career in the 1930s and early 1940s.

Life

Rebecca Benedict Heffener grew up in York, the city of her birth, before moving to Hollywood at the age of 18 to begin a career as an actress. In 1932 she got her first small role in Jewel Robbery , then still under the stage name Rebecca Wassem. After a two-year hiatus, she received better film offers in 1934 under the new stage name Sheila Darcy and played her first leading role in 1935. In 1937 she signed a contract with Paramount Pictures .

Darcy gained fame in the following years, primarily through appearances in so-called cliffhanger films. Among other things, she played the female lead in Zorro's Revenge from 1939. In addition to these films, Darcy starred as a female lead in several westerns alongside Ray Corrigan . In 1941 she officially ended her acting career with an appearance in Jungle Man , but took on a small supporting role in the western Tomahawk in 1951 .

Sheila Darcy was married to the actor Preston Foster from 1946 until his death in 1970 . She last lived in Kearny Mesa, a neighborhood in San Diego, where she died of heart failure in a hospital on February 24, 2004 at the age of 89. Darcy was buried at her husband's side in El Camino Memorial Park Cemetery.
