Ashinia Miller (born June 6, 1993 in Kingston ) is a Jamaican shot putter .

Athletic career

Ashinia Miller gained his first international experience at the CARIFTA Games 2009 in Vieux Fort , where he won gold medals in the shot put and discus throw. In 2010 he won the silver medal at the CARIFTA Games in George Town with 18.41 m. At the Central America and Caribbean Junior Championships (CAC) in Santo Domingo , he finished fourth with 17.21 m. He qualified for the Junior World Championships in Moncton , where he was eliminated with 17.44 m in qualification. He then took part in the first-ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore , where he finished sixth with 1.76 m in the B final. At the CARIFTA Games 2011 in Montego Bay , he won the gold medal with a new championship record of 19.47 m and was fourth in the discus throw with 49.20 m. He then won gold at the Pan American Junior Championships in Miramar with 19.97 m. In 2012 Miller again won gold in the shot put and bronze in the discus throw at the CARIFTA Games in Hamilton . He later took part in the CAC Junior Championships in San Salvador and won the gold medal there with a new championship record of 19.70 m. At the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , he finished eleventh with 18.70 m in the final.

Three years later he finished sixth at the NACAC championships in San José with 18.35 m. In 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time and finished seventh there with 19.68 m. Then he won the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla with 20.19 m, the silver medal behind his compatriot O'Dayne Richards .

Miller is a graduate in financial planning from the University of Georgia .
