The Shelby County Courthouse in Harlan , the Justice and Administration Building ( Courthouse ) of Shelby County in the west of the US -amerikanischen state of Iowa .
The current building is the fourth courthouse in Shelby County, founded in 1851. There are no more files on the first building in what was then Shelbyville . When the county seat was moved to Harlan in 1859, a timber frame structure was built here. The third building was erected in 1875. The current building was opened in 1893.
The three-story building was built from sandstone in the neo-Romanesque style according to a design by the architect Charles E. Bell . Construction work began in 1892. The building originally also had a clock tower, which was removed in 1899.
In 1978 an elevator was installed for the first time. In 1978 the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places with reference number 78001258 .
