The Shelikof Strait ( English Shelikof Strait ) is a strait between the south coast of Alaska and the islands of Kodiak and Afognak . The Cook Inlet is located at the northern end of the Straits.
The strait was named after the Russian navigator and trader Grigori Ivanovich Schelichow . Shelichov founded Alaska's first Russian settlement in 1784 in Three Saints Bay on Kodiak.
