The Sherman Pass (5,575 ft (1,699 m)) is a high mountain pass , which the Kettle River Range in the State of Washington crosses. It is the highest year-round operating pass in Washington. The pass is on Washington State Route 20 , also referred to here as the Sherman Pass Scenic Byway , and crosses the Colville National Forest . The pass is surrounded by areas devastated by the White Mountain fire of 1988. It was named after the Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman , who crossed the pass in 1883.
