The Shifen Da Pubu ( Chinese 十分 大 瀑布, Pinyin Shífēn Dà Pùbù , English: Shifen Waterfall) is a waterfall in the Pingxi district , New Taipei , Taiwan , on the upper reaches of the Keelung River . The waterfall has a height of 20  m and a width of 40 m, making it the widest waterfall in Taiwan.

geography

The cascade is located in a narrow part of the river valley, between the places Shifen and Dahua Chezhan (大 華 車站). In the steep slopes there are numerous other small cascades of other streams and only about 200 m away are the Yanjingdong Falls (眼鏡 洞) on a small tributary.

Surname

The name Shifen refers to the place name, as originally 10 families (Shi Fen) settled in this area in Pingxi. The waterfall is also known as the Little Niagara of Taiwan .

The river bed has numerous potholes and potholes on (potholes). These are even more pronounced in the upper reaches of the river.

tourism

The waterfall is about 2 km northeast of the Shifen Station of the Taiwan Railways . A railway line runs along the valley and passes the waterfall.

The surrounding land was privately owned for a long time and a company collected entrance fees from visitors. In 2014, the New Taipei City Tourism and Travel Authority acquired the land and created a municipal park . Access has been free since then. To the east of Shifen there is a parking lot from which you can walk to the waterfall.
