course

The Keelung River has its source in the southern part of the Pingxi community, a good 10 km east of Taipei in New Taipei . It flows first to the northeast and is accompanied by the Pingxi Line , a branch line of the Taiwanese railway . The Shifen waterfall is located on the upper reaches of the river . In the municipality of Ruifang , the Keelung River approaches up to about 2 km of the northeast coast of Taiwan on the East China Sea before changing its direction of flow to the west.

It then flows through the southern districts of the port city of Keelung, facing away from the sea . Continuing southwest through the city of Xizhi to Taipei , the valley of the Keelung River is an important transport corridor through which two highways and the main line of the Taiwanese railway run. In the urban area of Taipei, the river reaches the Taipei Basin . It flows through the capital of Taiwan north of the center from east to west. The last stretch of the river forms the border between the Shilin and Beitou districts . In the Guandu district in northwest Taipei, the Keelung River flows into the Danshui, which in turn flows into Formosa Street about 9 km northwest .
