Shiga-like toxin 1 (SLT-1) is a protein from the bacteriophage ϕH19B and a microbial exotoxin .

properties

SLT-1 is closely related to the Shiga-like toxin 2 . Subunit A inactivates the 60S subunits of the ribosomes by hydrolysis of the N -glycosidic bond to an adenine in the 28S rRNA . After endocytosis , the Shiga-like toxin is split into two fragments by the protease furin , A1 and A2. A1 has enzyme activity , while A2 mediates binding to the B subunit. The subunit B binds to the glycolipid globotriaosylceramide ( CD77 ) in the microvilli of the intestine.
