Shigeaki Ushijima

Shigeaki Ushijima ( Japanese 牛 島 茂 昭 , Ujishima Shigeaki ; born July 13, 1977 in Hokkaidō ) is a Japanese luge athlete .

Shigeaki Ushijima lives in Hokkaido. He has been sledding since 1990 and has been a member of the Japanese national team since 1996. He has been competing in the Luge World Cup since the second half of the 1990s . He achieved his best result in the World Cup in eleventh place in the single seater on his home track in Nagano in the 1998/99 season . In the long term, however, he was unable to reach the top of the world. The best result in the overall World Cup was a 25th place in 2005/06 .

Ushijima competed three times at the Olympic Games. In 1998 in Nagano he achieved his best result in his home country as 16th, in 2002 he was 27th in Salt Lake City and in 2006 he came in 35th place in Turin . Ushijima achieved the best results at the Luge World Championships in the team competitions. In 2003 in Sigulda and in 2004 in Nagano, he was tenth with the Japanese team. He achieved the best results as an individual starter in Nagano and in 2007 in Igls as 21.
