Coordinates: 31 ° 52 ′ S , 116 ° 46 ′ E The Shire of York is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . The area is 2133 km² and has about 3600 inhabitants (2016).
York is located in the western Australian "wheat belt" in the west of the state about 85 kilometers east of the capital Perth . The seat of the Shire Council is in the town of York , where about 2500 inhabitants live (2016).

The York Council has six members. They are elected by all residents of the LGA. York is not divided into districts. The Council Chairman and Shire President are also recruited from among the Councilor.
