Shivko Shelev
Shivko Shelev ( Bulgarian Живко Желев ; born August 18, 1955 in Shabla ) is a Bulgarian opera singer ( tenor ).
Life
Shivko Shelev studied at the Conservatory of Music in Sofia and initially graduated with a diploma in horn and piano as a Magister with distinction. When experts recognized his talent for singing, he switched to singing in 1988 and also studied this art. He soon won first prizes and received a scholarship at the L'Accademia di Arte e Cultura in Rome with Maestro Boris Christoff . Shortly afterwards he won second prize at the Tito Schipa singing competition in Lecce .
Shivko Shelev made his operatic debut with great success in Sofia as Almaviva in Rossini's “ The Barber of Seville ”. In 1990/91 he was engaged as a soloist at the Zagreb Opera and sang the roles of Belmonte in “ Die Entführung aus dem Serail ” and Alfredo in “ La traviata ”. Already with his first role at the Erfurt Opera House as Rodolfo in “ La Bohème ”, the press in Germany took notice of him, attesting to him “expansive strength” and “the most secure voice right up to the highest heights” as well as “vocal enamel”. He also appeared as Tamino in “ The Magic Flute ”, Don Ottavio in “ Don Giovanni ” and as Sandor Barinkay (“ The Gypsy Baron ”).
He continued his career at the Bremen Theater, where he played other important roles such as Nemorino in “L'Elisir d'amore”, Lenski in “Eugene Onegin”, Duca di Mantova in “Rigoletto”, Ernesto in “Don Pasquale” ”And Cassio in“ Otello ”took over, and celebrated great success. Numerous guest appearances followed on various stages in Belgium, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, Austria, France, Spain, Italy and the USA. He also took part in various theater, radio and television productions.
Since the turn of the millennium Shivko Shelev has appeared as a freelance artist. He repeatedly appears as a soloist on cruise ships and has been a guest at Europa , Deutschland , Columbus , Amadea and Hanseatic , for example . He also works as a singing teacher.
After a long illness, Shelev was on stage in the summer of 2010 in a benefit concert for the Links der Weser Clinic (Bremen) with a special dedication to the entire intensive care unit staff.
