Chamdo Shiwa Lha ( Tib . : chab mdo zhi ba lha ) or Chamdo Zhiwa Lha or in short: Shiwa Lha ( Tib . : zhi ba lha ) or Zhiwa Lha is one of the incarnation series of the Gelug School of Tibetan Buddhism . The traditional seat of the Trulkus is the monastery Chamdo Champa Ling (Tib .: chab mdo byams pa gling ) in Chengguan , where the Phagpa Lha is also based. To date there are seven or eight representatives of this series.
The 1st Shiwa Lha Rinpoche was Pelden Chogdrub ( dpal ldan mchog grub ; 1454-1523).
Known as the eighth representative of the series, Tendzin Lobsang Chöphel (bstan 'dzin blo bzang chos' phel; 1980-) was born in Switzerland and taken to the Sera monastery (in Bylakuppe ) in southern India to study.
