Shizuo Ban

Shizuo Ban (born November 16, 1896 in Tokyo , † October 13, 1989 in Osaka ) was a Japanese civil engineer.

Ban went to school in Tokyo and studied at Tokyo University from 1918 to 1921 . From 1922 to 1933 he was an assistant professor at Kyoto University and during this time received his doctorate in 1928 at Tokyo University. The dissertation was on reinforced concrete structures. From 1931 to 1933 he went to study at the TH Karlsruhe and the ETH Zurich . He then became a professor in Kyoto, which he remained until his retirement in 1959. From 1964 to 1974 he was director of the construction research company in Osaka and then its chairman until 1983.
