from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shōzō Kaga ( Japanese 加 賀 昭 三 , Kaga Shōzō ) is a Japanese game designer and producer . He is the creator of the Fire Emblem and TearRing saga series.

description

Shōzō Kaga developed the first five Fire Emblem games under the direction of Intelligent Systems , a game development studio owned by Nintendo . Then, in 2000, he left the company and founded his own studio, Tirnanog, and published the TearRing saga for the PlayStation together with Enterbrain in 2001 . Since the game is heavily based on the Fire Emblem games, Nintendo filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement . As a result, the name of the game had to be changed from the original title Emblem Saga to TearRing Saga , and all references to scenarios from the previous Fire Emblem parts had to be removed. After another lawsuit from Nintendo, Enterbrain was eventually fined 76 million yen . Nevertheless, the game is considered a best seller, because in the first three months alone it sold 345,000 times in Japan.

In 2005, a sequel to the TearRing saga called Berwick Saga was released for the PlayStation 2 . The game includes a heavily modified gameplay that is less based on the Fire Emblem series. The innovative moves were highly praised. Despite this, the game only sold 84,000 times. The Tinanog company was then dissolved and the series discontinued. Since then, Kaga seemed to be retired.

After ten years, in 2015, he announced his comeback. He is developing an indie game that will be financed via a Kickstarter- like platform. The title is Vestaria Saga I .
