Mitsukuri Shūkichi

Mitsukuri Shūkichi ( Japanese 箕 作 秋 吉 ; born October 21, 1895 in Tokyo , † May 10, 1971 in Kanagawa Prefecture ) was a Japanese composer.

Life

Mitsukuri studied at the University of Tokyo and was then a student of Georg Schumann in Berlin and of Joseph Rosenstock in Tokyo . In 1935 he founded the Japanese section of the International Society for Contemporary Music , of which he was general secretary until 1953. In 1936 he took part in the art competition for the Olympic Games in Berlin with the composition "Healthy Summer". However, his contribution was not awarded. - Since 1939 he was a professor at the University of Tokyo.

He composed two symphonies and a sinfonietta, two symphonic poems , a piano concerto, a classical suite , chamber music works, violin and piano pieces as well as several song and folk song collections .
