32.1 Shuriwka sugar plant

The Shuriwka freight railway is a single-track, non-electrified branch line in the Kiev Oblast . It connects the sugar factory in Shuriwka with the Jahotyn station on the Kiev – Poltava railway line .

Geographical location

The route lies in two districts of Kiev Oblast: Jahotyn Raion and Shuriwka Raion . It is one of the longest private railways in Ukraine .

history

The line was built before 1960. It was always part of the Shuriwka sugar factory (formerly the Red Army sugar factory ). At the end point in Shuriwka, there was a connection to the combine’s narrow-gauge railways until the end of the 1970s . Passenger traffic was shut down due to the economic crisis in 1990.

Current condition

The sugar beet harvest follows in September . In the following three months, the beets are processed by the sugar factory. There is only regular traffic on this route from October to December.
