Ziyad Abu Ain

Ziyad Abu Ain ( Arabic زياد أبو عين, DMG Ziyād Abū ʿAin ; * November 22, 1959 ; † December 10, 2014 in Ramallah ) was a Palestinian politician .

Life

Ziyad Abu Ain was a Fatah minister and minister without portfolio in the government of President Mahmoud Abbas and was responsible for monitoring Israeli settlement activities in the Palestinian territories. He was previously Deputy Minister for Palestinian Prisoners.

On December 10, 2014, he took part in a protest march in the village of Turmsadscha north of Ramallah, which was directed against Israeli land expropriation and during which olive trees were to be planted. After fights with the Israeli soldiers, in which the Israeli side also used tear gas, Abu Ain collapsed and was taken to a hospital in Ramallah, where he died a little later. According to the hospital management, the cause of death was a myocardial infarction preceded by an attack of suffocation.
