The Sibelius Glacier is a 19 km long and up to 10 km wide glacier in the northern part of Alexander I Island off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It flows 16 km southwest of Mount Stephenson into the Mozart Piedmont Glacier .
It was discovered from the air and roughly mapped in 1937 during the British Graham Land Expedition (1934–1937) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer John Rymill . Aerial photographs of the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948) were used by Derek John Hatherhill Searle (1928–2003) from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1960 for a more precise mapping. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the glacier in 1960 after the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865–1957).
