Sibnarayan Ray ( Bengali : শিবনারায়ণ রায় , Śibnārāẏaṇ Rāẏ , Shibnarayan Ray ; born January 20, 1921 in Kolkata , West Bengal ; † February 26, 2008 in Shantiniketan , West Bengal) was an important Indian - Bengali philosopher and literary critic. His work through Manabendra Nath Roy achieved lasting fame .

Life

Ray was born into a well-read family. He turned to socialism early on, but was in opposition to Stalin . He graduated from Calcutta University (English and Literature). He worked from 1963 to 1981 at Melbourne University . Ray was a supporter of the radical humanism of Manabendra Nath Roy. He turned against religions because they hinder free thought.
