Sibylle Bassler

Sibylle Bassler (born October 9, 1957 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German television journalist .

Vita

Bassler studied journalism , sociology and book studies at the University of Mainz from 1976 to 1982 . She began her work on television at SWR , where she worked as an author and filmmaker in Baden-Baden, Mainz and Stuttgart from 1982 to 1988. In 1985 she completed an internship at SWR. In 1988 she switched to the editorial team of ML Mona Lisa at ZDF , where she worked as editor and deputy editor-in-chief. She was also a film author for ZDF, arte, 3sat, ZDF-info and the ZDF documentary channel. From July 2008 to July 2017, Bassler was editor-in-chief of ML Mona Lisa .

Documentaries (selection)

Her best-known works include the films Raped and Distributed via Mass Rape in Former Yugoslavia and The Disappeared Babies of Kharkov . This film led the European Parliament and the Council of Europe to set up a commission of inquiry.

In the series Der Fall ... films about well-known criminal cases were made for ZDF . As a co-author, she worked, among other things, on the documentaries Because they knew what they are doing ... and In the Catches of Care about child abuse and the fate of children in care and henchmen of the Nazis - The story of John Demjanjuk .

Awards

  • In May 2004 she received the Order of Friendship from the Order of Knights “Der Greif” for her “courageous and courageous” commitment and her excellent journalistic work.
  • In June 2011, Bassler received the media award from the Alliance for Children Against Violence Foundation for her “haunting reporting on child abuse” .
  • She was honored with the Righteous Among Women award in Sarajevo in September 2012 .
