Viewing triangle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The triangle of vision means the field of vision that a road user must have available if he wants to turn from a subordinate street into a higher-level street .

He needs a certain amount of time to bend. The distance that vehicles can cover on the privileged road within this time must be clearly visible in both directions. From the point of view of the road user on the subordinate road, if the road is straight, these routes result in a triangular field of view from his own location.

The obscuration of the viewing triangle by parked vehicles, garden fences, hedges or the like makes turning difficult and endangers road safety .

Specifications for the calculations for the design of visual triangles, in particular the necessary leg lengths containing guidelines for the investment of city streets - RAST 06 as well as the guidelines for the investment of rural roads - RAL . Several city ordinances refer to it. For compliance with these regulations is road construction , opens the road responsible.

Visual triangles also play an important role in the design of level crossings .
