Origin and development

The Berkersheimer Weg settlement was built from 1967 to 1971 following the residential areas of the Frankfurter Berg. It consists of high-rise groups with up to 25 storeys. The urban planning concept followed the guiding principle of " urbanity through density " at the time. The non-profit housing and settlement construction company created a total of 980 apartments, mostly with funds from social housing . All apartments are located in high-rise buildings with the exception of twenty single-family houses. The settlement is divided into a western area, which is accessible via Julius-Brecht-Straße and is built on with nine residential towers, and an eastern area, which is connected via Heinrich-Plett-Straße and is built on with two eight-story buildings and the single-family row houses . In between there is a daycare center and a playground. Four high-rise buildings, 17, 19, 19 and 25 storeys high, dominate the western area. Five eight-story buildings are grouped around it in the northeast. All high-rise buildings and their apartments face west or east. The buildings were made of precast concrete parts, the surface design of which consists partly of exposed aggregate concrete . Some buildings have been renovated in the meantime. Parking spaces are available in a multi-storey car park and on a parking lot. A small shopping arcade with various shops is used to supply everyday goods. Green areas surround the development. About 2000 people live in the high-rise buildings (as of 2008).

Transport links

The Berkersheimer Weg settlement is connected to the S-Bahn network via the Frankfurter Berg train station and to the rest of the local public transport network via several bus routes. After about one kilometer, you can take the Homburger Landstrasse to the Eckenheim junction for the 661 motorway .
