Origin and development

The settlement was built between 1958 and 1961 with funds from social housing . The housing association Neue Heimat , now known as the non-profit housing association Hessen , built 556 apartments.

The urban layout follows the model of a relaxed city in a row construction . The parallel structures and the rhythmic offset of the line segments are characteristic of urban planning. The three- to four-story buildings are aligned so that all apartments face west or east. In between there are generously planted green areas. An eight-storey residential high-rise in the east creates an urban accent.

The settlement is accessible from Bonameser Strasse via the streets Im Mellsig, Birkholzweg and Am Grünen Graben . Parking spaces are arranged on the street in bays or in garage yards. The settlement is connected to local public transport via a bus line.

In the middle of the settlement there is a green corridor along Birkholzweg, which leads into a large playground in front of the high-rise. There is also a daycare center there . About 1000 people live in the settlement.

In order to secure the overall urban structure and the housing offer typical for the settlement and to preserve the existing population structure, a conservation statute was put into effect for the settlement by the city in 1990 .
