The Sieglhof is a council in the 16th Viennese district Ottakring . The building was built between 1930 and 1931 according to plans by the architect Franz Kuhn and named after the politician Franz Siegel in 1949 .

location

The Siegelhof is located in the Viennese cadastral community of Ottakring and occupies the eastern area of the street block between Redtenbachergasse in the west, Wilhelminenstrasse in the north, Speckbachergasse in the east and Degengasse in the south. The main front of the municipal building extends over the entire length of Redtenbachergasse in this street block and also takes up half the street front of Wilhelminenstrasse and Degengasse. Opposite the community building is the residential complex Degengasse 34–38 in Redtenbachergasse.

History and structure

On the property of the Siegelhof, which belonged to Heinrich Fischer prior to the construction of the building, there were three single-storey wooden fish halls in the 1920s that were used as sales huts. The fish halls were probably demolished before the residential complex was built.

The Siegelhof itself has a U-shaped floor plan and encloses a green inner courtyard. The longest of the smoothly plastered street facades is on Redtenbachergasse and includes 48 window axes. It jumps back slightly behind the edge of the house and is divided into regular vertical sections by five staircases highlighted in color. The slightly sloping terrain can be recognized by the base that ends with a groove. The eaves protrude slightly and run around the entire building block. The main facade of the residential complex is on Wilhelminenstrasse. Here is a business office. The facade on Degengasse has three rows of lattice balconies. Otherwise there are no design elements on the street-side facades. The longest of the three courtyard facades with 34 window axes is equipped with double and single rows of lattice balconies. The inner courtyard is accessed from Wilhelminenstrasse and Degengasse through one passage each.
