Siegfried Behrens (physician)

Siegfried Behrens (* 1942 ) is a German surgeon and former chief physician of the district hospital Lemgo -Lippe, by the restoration of the St. Mary on the coins mountain in Quedlinburg was nationally known.

Life

Behrens graduated from the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster with a doctorate in medicine . His habilitation thesis was accepted at the Hannover Medical School in 1978 . He then worked as a surgeon in the Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery Department of the Lemgo-Lippe District Hospital, which he later became head of. After reunification , he and his wife became aware of Quedlinburg through a television program in 1994 and bought a house there on the Munzenberg. Over the years, he succeeded in bringing together more and more building fragments of the former St. Mary's Church through acquisitions and exchanges . In 2006, the couple brought three of their houses with the other fragments of the monastery church to the foundation " Monastery Church of St. Mary on the Munzenberg ", which they founded and which is administered by the German Foundation for Monument Protection . In 2009 he was awarded the Romance Prize for his commitment and in 2010 he was made an honorary citizen of Quedlinburg.
