Siegfried Carli (* 1936 in Meran ) is a former member of the South Tyrol Liberation Committee (BAS).

Life

After it became obvious that peaceful protest could not induce the Italian state to act on the South Tyrol issue, Siegfried Carli also wanted to try more. At the end of the 1950s he was inspired by the South Tyrol Liberation Committee and became an active member. "We felt what was going on in South Tyrol, " said Siegfried Carli, "we saw how more and more Italians came to Bolzano , something had to be done."

In 1961 Carli fled to North Tyrol to avoid being arrested during the night of fire , in which he was actively involved . On July 16, 1964, he was sentenced in absentia to 19 years and 11 months in prison in the so-called Milan Trial. Carli no longer took part in the intensified form of resistance in the years after the night of fire. He later said of BAS: "We hacked it."
