Siegfried Elsing

Siegfried H. Elsing (* 1950 in Essen ) is a German business lawyer . He is Senior Partner Germany of the global law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP and honorary professor at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf .

Life

Siegfried H. Elsing studied law at the Universities of Freiburg , Lausanne and Münster . He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Labor and Business Law at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. In 1976 he received a thesis on extended limited partner liability and atypical limited partnerships with the then judge at the Federal Constitutional Court, Prof. Dr. Hans Brox , holds a doctorate in law (Dr. iur.). In 1979 he earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Yale Law School .

Siegfried H. Elsing in Germany since 1979 as a lawyer and in New York since 1983 as Attorney-at-Law admitted. The focus of his legal work is in the areas of arbitration, M&A transactions, investments, energy law, corporate law, financing, joint ventures and German-American legal transactions. Siegfried H. Elsing has acted in more than 150 national and international arbitration proceedings (ICC, DIS, ICSID , SCC, VIAC, UNCITRAL, ad hoc, etc.) as legal representative, chairman of the arbitral tribunal, sole arbitrator or party arbitrator. He also appears before German courts as an expert on US law and before courts in the USA and Great Britain as an expert on German law. Another focus of his legal work is advising advisory and supervisory board members.

He founded the law firm Hölters & Elsing in 1989 and initiated the merger with the US law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP in 2008.

Siegfried H. Elsing was appointed in 2011 by the President of the World Bank as a member of the ICSID Panel of Conciliators as a recommended arbitrator in international disputes.

Since 1999 he has been teaching commercial arbitration and international civil procedure law at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. In 2007 he was made an honorary professor. In addition, he regularly gives specialist lectures at home and abroad and publishes articles in the fields of arbitration and international business law.

Siegfried H. Elsing is chairman of the supervisory board of nobilia-Werke J. Stickling GmbH & Co. KG. Furthermore, on May 15, 2013, he assumed the office of Honorary Consul of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in North Rhine-Westphalia (with the exception of the city of Aachen and the districts of Aachen, Düren and Heinsberg).

Memberships

Siegfried H. Elsing is a board member of the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and the German Institution for Arbitration (DIS). From 1990 to 1991 he was President of the Association Internationale des Jeunes Avocats (AIJA) and from 2007 to 2008 he was Chairman of the Mediation Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA). He is also a member of numerous national and international lawyers' associations (AAA, ABA, AIJA, ASA, Deutscher Anwaltverein eV, DIS, IBA, ICCA, LCIA).
